Day 4 in San Francisco

Yesterday, at 9:00 in the morning, we got on the ferry to Angel Island. When we got to Angel Island, we got on buses to take a tour around the island. On the tour, we learned that, unlike Ellis Island, Angel Island wasn't only used as an immigration station. It was also an army fort.

We left Angel Island to go to Alcatraz, the prison.

When we got to Alcatraz, we went to watch 2 short movies about Alcatraz. When the movies were done, it was 2:00, so we went to hear a talk about attempted escapes on Alcatraz. The talk was very interesting, and we learned lots of stories. My personal favorite was that a few prisoners got together and made a lifeboat. They also made fake heads so that the guards wouldn't notice that they were gone. However, when thay didn't wake up, a guard kicked a fake head to wake them up, and it rolled away. They caught the prisoners.  When the talk ended, we went to the cell house. In the cell house, we saw the cells

and D-Block. D-Block is the place where especially bad prisoners went.

The cells were only the size of a pool table! We finished looking at the cell house and got on the boat to take us back to the city. When we got back from Alcatraz, we were tired, so we went back to our house, rested, and went out to eat dinner.

Day 3 in San Francisco

Yesterday, we walked through Alamo Square, and got on the bus to Golden Gate Park. We started out by looking at the gardens that are filled with beautiful flowers.

Then, we went to the Conservatory of Flowers.
After realizing that it was closed on Mondays, we decided to walk to the California Academy of Sciences to have lunch and look around. When we got there, we were all starving, so we got in the long lunch line right away. After we finished lunch, we started looking around the museum. the special exhibit was earthquakes, so we learned about the San Francisco Earthquake. We also went in a "house" that was supposed to simulate being in an earthquake.
After we left the earthquake zone, we went straight to see a movie called Habitat Earth in the planetarium. When we left the planetarium, we went to the Naturalist Center in the museum and learned about nanotechnology and chocolate.

After we left the Naturalist Center, we went on the green roof. The green roof is basically a garden but it is on the roof.

When we got off the roof, we went to the aquarium that is in the basement of the museum. You can walk through a tunnel that is surrounded by water, so it's almost like you're walking in the ocean.

There is also an albino alligator.

We got out of the basement, and made it to a rainforest in a sphere just before they stopped letting people in. The rainforest is very cool because they have little amphibians and insects in glass terrariums, and birds and butterflies flying wherever they want.

We left the museum because it was closing, and went to find the bison that are in Golden Gate Park.
After we saw the bison, we got dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant. When we finished dinner, Cinderella was playing at a movie theater a few doors down so we went to see that.
